Ashok Leyland has introduced India's first range of 45-tonne, 46-tonne, and 49-tonne trucks equipped with air suspension, marking a major technological advancement in the country's commercial vehicle industry.
The new lineup includes the AVTR 4525 8x2 MAV, AVTR 4625 10x2 MAV, and AVTR 4925 10x2 MAV. Designed for long-haul logistics and heavy-duty transport, these trucks promise improved ride comfort, higher payload capacity, and lower operating costs for fleet operators.
The biggest highlight of the new range is the adoption of air suspension technology, a first for trucks in the 45T to 49T category in India.
According to Ashok Leyland, the new system offers several advantages over conventional suspension setups, including:
Improved vehicle stability under heavy loads
Reduced vibrations and road shocks
Better ride comfort
Longer tyre life
Lower maintenance requirements
The rear air suspension system also eliminates the need for regular greasing, helping reduce maintenance costs over the vehicle's lifespan.
Ashok Leyland claims the new trucks offer a best-in-class payload advantage of up to 4 tonnes, allowing operators to carry more cargo per trip.
The three models include:
AVTR 4525 8x2 MAV – Up to 4-tonne payload advantage
AVTR 4625 10x2 MAV – Up to 4-tonne payload advantage
AVTR 4925 10x2 MAV – Around 1.5-tonne payload advantage
A higher payload translates directly into improved earning potential for fleet owners while reducing the cost per tonne of transported goods.
The new trucks have been developed primarily for logistics companies and businesses involved in heavy cargo transportation.
Ashok Leyland says the improved suspension system not only enhances driver comfort but also helps protect sensitive cargo by reducing vibrations on rough roads.
The trucks will be available in both cowl and factory-built cabin configurations with multiple loading span options to suit different business requirements.
Apart from the new suspension system, the trucks come equipped with several advanced technologies.
Standard features include:
iVAC (Intelligent Vehicle Acceleration Control) for improved fuel efficiency
ATC (Automatic Traction Control) for better grip on different road surfaces
Multiple loading configurations
Optimised chassis for higher productivity
These technologies are designed to improve overall operating efficiency while reducing fuel consumption and downtime.

Ashok Leyland says the new air suspension range has been engineered to deliver a lower total cost of ownership.
Key benefits include:
Higher revenue through increased payload
Reduced maintenance requirements
Better tyre life
Improved fuel efficiency
Enhanced driver comfort during long-distance operations
These improvements are expected to make the trucks more profitable for fleet operators over their operational life.
With the launch of India's first heavy-duty trucks featuring factory-fitted air suspension, Ashok Leyland has taken another step towards modernising the country's commercial vehicle segment.
As logistics companies increasingly look for vehicles that offer better efficiency, higher payloads, and improved driver comfort, the new AVTR air suspension range could become an attractive option for fleet owners looking to maximise productivity and reduce operating costs.
