The wait is finally over for automotive enthusiasts across India. Tata Motors has officially released the first teaser picture of the production-ready Tata Sierra.EV ahead of its grand launch scheduled for June 30th. This marks the rebirth of one of India’s most iconic automotive nameplates, modernized for the electric era.
First showcased as a concept at the Auto Expo, the Sierra.EV has transitioned from a design study into a highly anticipated production model. Combining nostalgic design cues with state-of-the-art electric vehicle architecture, the Sierra.EV is poised to disrupt the premium mid-size SUV segment.
The teaser picture confirms that Tata Motors has stayed incredibly true to the design philosophy of the original 1990s Sierra while integrating modern, futuristic details.
The standout feature of the original Sierra was its signature wraparound rear glass house. In the new Sierra.EV, this has been reinterpreted as a blacked-out glass canopy that merges seamlessly with the roofline. This gives the SUV a floating roof effect while maintaining the retro-futuristic silhouette that made the original vehicle a cult classic.
The front end features a full-width connected LED DRL bar, a signature element of Tata’s modern EV identity (as seen on the Nexon.ev and Punch.ev). The front bumper is chunky and aerodynamically optimized, houses split LED projector headlamps, and sports an illuminated Tata logo at the center. Additionally, flush-fitting door handles and aerodynamically styled alloy wheels are visible, aimed at minimizing drag and maximizing highway range.
The Tata Sierra.EV will be built on the company’s advanced Acti.ev (Advanced Connected Tech-Intelligent Electric Vehicle) architecture, which also underpins the Punch.ev and the upcoming Curvv.ev. This dedicated Gen-2 EV platform is designed to maximize cabin space, offer superior structural safety, and accommodate high-density battery packs.
By placing the battery pack low and flat along the floorboard, Tata has achieved a perfect low center of gravity. This translates to improved handling, a spacious flat-floor design for rear passengers, and class-leading boot space.
While official performance figures are under wraps until the June 30th launch, industry insiders suggest that the Sierra.EV will offer two distinct battery pack options to cater to different customer needs:
Medium Range (MR): Expected to feature a 45 kWh battery pack, offering a real-world range of approximately 350-380 km, ideal for daily city commutes.
Long Range (LR): Anticipated to house a massive 60 kWh battery pack, pushing the ARAI-certified range past the 500 km mark on a single charge.
Additionally, rumor mills suggest that Tata might offer an All-Wheel Drive (AWD) dual-motor variant in the future, honoring the rugged legacy of the Sierra badge.

Dual-Screen Setup: A massive 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system by HARMAN alongside a 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster.
Lounge Seating Concept: Superior rear legroom with individual armrests, ambient lighting, and dedicated rear climate zones.
